On God’s chosen day, Sunday, March 9, 2008, He recalled a beautiful soul and precious gift, Harry S. Franklin, to spend eternity with Him. He passed away on his 82nd birthday at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center, Point Pleasant, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 9, 1926, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Raymond and Fannie Franklin. He was a retiree from Kaiser Aluminum and a proud Navy veteran of WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy (Borden) Franklin; brothers, Raymond, Guy, Robert, Richard and James Franklin; sisters, Anna Lewis, Helen Burton and Irene Harris; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Hoy, Earl Jordan, Bill Lewis, Alexander, Charles and John Borden; and sister-in-law, Josephine Franklin.
He is survived by his children, Christopher “Pete” and Sharon Anderson, Denise and Darryl Martin and Harriet Franklin; grandchildren, LaTanya and William Smith, Christopher “Pete” Anderson, Jr., Brittany Franklin and Wade Martin; great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Adrianne and Tyler Grant, William “Tre” Smith, III, Braxton Smith, Christopher Anderson, III, Vanessa Anderson, Avery Wirt, Alonzo Anderson and Taija Large. He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Hoy, Hattie Jordan, Pauline Jackson and Phyllis and Ralph Taylor; brothers-in-law, David Jackson, Ernest and Donald Borden; sisters-in-law, Ada Franklin, Jessica Franklin, Sarah Frazier, Margaret Cook, Cathy and John Roebuck and Carolyn Borden-Collins. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends and loved ones.
He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family, love of fishing and touching hundreds of lives during his time on earth. His smile, sense of humor and wonderful charisma will be missed by all who knew him. Pallbearers are Christopher “Pete” Anderson, Jr, Richard Franklin, Jr., Ryan Cossin, Johnny Jordan, David Cook and Morris Casey. Honorary pallbearers are David Jackson, Ralph Taylor, Ernest and Donald Borden and Rick Handley.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Minister John Roebuck, Associate Pastor Harry Harris and Rev. Don Rollins officiating. Burial will follow in Pine St. Cemetery, Gallipolis, Ohio. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, March 14, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
