Obituary

Arnold L. "Spuds" Watson, 83, of Henderson, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Spuds was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a Gunnery Sgt. during the Korean Conflict. He worked at the Marietta Plant and was also a towboat engineer. Spuds was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and walk his beloved Henderson. He also enjoyed his garden, usually sharing his grown bounty with others. He never knew a stranger and helped run Arnold's Place after his parents passed. All the kids in town he treated as his own and loved them all the same.

Spuds was born on December 4, 1929, in Point Pleasant, a son to the late Arnold and Mildred Rose (Lee) Watson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his in-laws, John F. and Laura (Simpkins) Swisher, Jack E. "Mickey" Watson, Daryl Clark and Michael Swisher.

Spuds is survived by his wife, Viola; son, Arnold F "Arnie" Watson, of Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Robert "Bobby" and Shelia Kay "KayBug" Smith, of Henderson, granddaughters, Elizabeth and Scott Petry, Sara E. Watson, April Tianna Joy "Tion" Neal and Regina Renee Patterson; grandson, Tony Michael and Joyce (Terrana) Cox; great-granchildren, Noah Elijah Jayce Watson, Samantha and Gillian Petry; and his sister, Peggy Clark.

The funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Tony Cox officiating. Private burial will be observed in Henderson Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening at the funeral home, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the funeral home to help with offsetting the funeral expenses.

Remember Spuds with love and joy in your hearts. He loved you all and he is now hunting and fishing in the great woods, lakes, rivers and streams of heaven.
