Carl O. Smith, age 76, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, died Sunday morning, November 23, 2008, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center. He was a retired laborer for ACF Industries, in Huntington. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed his CB radio, with his handle being "Stickbuddy".
Carl was born April 23, 1932, in Mason County, to the late Willie and Freda (Leport) Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and James Smith.
He is survived by his nieces, Melisa (Gregory) Smith-Frank, of New Brighton, PA and Michele (Reed) Mitchell, of Alquippa, PA; great-nieces and nephew, Tyler and Alyssa Frank and Jade and Victoria Mitchell; sister-in-law, Patsy Smith, of Monaca, PA; special friend, Deborah Roush, of Point Pleasant; and his best friends, Bear and Lucky.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Rev. Dorsel Messick officiating. Burial will follow in Rogers Cemetery, Gallipolis Ferry. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Carl's care has been entrusted to Crow-Hussell Funeral Home.
