Carol Sue (Machir) Patterson, 71, of Shawnee Hills, OH, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at her home. She retired, along with her husband, after 30 years of service to the Columbus Zoo. She continued her love of animals and raised champion show dogs and chickens. She was actively involved in animal rescue especially with the numerous cats she maintained at her house. Born December 22, 1938 in Point Pleasant, WV, she was a daughter to the late William F. and Violette (Somerville) Machir. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Woody Patterson, in 1999; son, Timothy Ray Patterson, in 1982.

Carol is survived by her sons, Paul (Tonda Ann) Patterson of Greenfield, OH and Franklin Edward Brown of Stockport, OH.;grandchildren, Joshua Paul, Twolla Kay, Tiffany Lynn, Kyle Timothy Patterson; sisters, Debby Hickel of Pt. Pleasant, WV, Pat Machir of Louisa, KY, and many special friends and neighbors, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Crow Hussell Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Suncrest Cemetery, Point Pleasant, WV. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
