Rev. Charles J. Thornton, 76, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Apr 12, 2025, at Cabell Huntington Hospital SICU. He was born May 10, 1948 to the late Charles Thornton and Ivy Herdman in Leon, WV. He retired from Rockwell Automation in Gallipolis,OH. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Jane Jordan Thornton, his mother and father in law, Nellie and Hugh Jordan, his sister, Judy Cole, his nephew, Kevin Cole, and niece, Barbara Birchfield.
He is survived by his loving son and daughter in law, Joseph and Erica Thornton of Gallipolis Ferry, WV; Two Grandsons, Taylor Thornton of Middleport, OH and Charles Joseph "CJ" Thornton of Gallipolis, OH; and one granddaughter, Kathryn "Katy" Thornton of Gallipolis Ferry, WV; Three Great-Grandchildren, Victori Thornton and Alex Thornton Of Middleport, OH and Noah Charles Thornton of Chauncey, OH. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law Pastor Jim and Connie Thornton of Point Pleasant, WV, as well as numerous nieces and nephews,and his dear friend Teresa Hampton of Patriot, OH.
Charles loved working on things and making things, and he loved his family. His greatest love was his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His greatest wish was to see all of his friends and family come to know the Lord as their Savior.
The family would like to thank the Cabell Huntington SICU Staff for all of the amazing care that they gave him.Dakota Imboden, RN at Rivers Health for his care up to transport to Cabell and Dr. Sharp at Rivers Health for his excellent care as well. They would also like to thank Pastor Sean Mayenschein and Carl Joseph Root and the congregation at Faith Baptist Chapel Chesapeake OH for being there for the family consistently throughout this time period.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Faith Baptist Chapel 43 Township Road 1010, Chesapeake, OH 45619-7912.
