Chester M."Gumpy" Leport, 74, of Point Pleasant, went to be with his Lord, Friday, August 8, 2008, at the Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Point Pleasant. He was a painter, a firefighter for Point Pleasant, he was a member of Wyoma Pentecostal Church and was also an avid fisherman.
Born, May 13, 1934, in Point Pleasant, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Oma (Taylor) Leport. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Helen Rice and Lucille Cook; his two brothers, Marvin and Cyrus Leport, Jr. and a half brother.
He is survived by his sister, Esther Patterson of Point Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Lawrence Patterson, Jr., Jeffrey Patterson, Steven Patterson, Linda Maria McCarthy, Kimberly Myers and Ricky Patterson all of Point Pleasant; Norris Patterson of Houston, Texas and Junior Vansickle of Gallipolis, Ohio.
A Celebration of "Gumpy's" Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Pastor Carl Swisher and Robert L. Patterson, II, officiating. Burial will follow in Lone Oak Cemetery, Point Pleasant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.
