David M. Sword age 73 of Point Pleasant, WV., passed away at his home surrounded by his family.
David was born February 21, 1951in Springfield, Ohio to the late Ernest and Louise (Dalton) Sword.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Terry Sword of Springfield, OH.
David would tell you that that while on leave from the United States Air Force his life began in 1973 when he met Phyllis See, it was true love at first sight. The two were wed May 16, 1974, and for 50 years they have been the love and life to each other through thick and thin their love never ended. In May of 1977 they were blessed with a daughter, Dee Dee (Mike) Rodgers and the family of four was completed in 1978 when their son David (Tina Lee) Swords arrived. David AKA Dad and Phyllis also raised David's sisters Patricia Vollmer and Holley (Shane) Plumber.
David served in the Air Force from 1969 -1975 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was a man of many talents and always had a joke to tell and never met a stranger.
He was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church of Point Pleasant, a charter member of the Flat Rock Volunteer Fire Department where he served as treasurer and 15 years as a board member, he was an active member of American Legion Post #23.
While he enjoyed all his activities, he was over the moon happy with the arrival of his grandson, James David Durst and his special girl and singer Caitlyn Durst to say he embraced and excelled at his new Role as PaPa would be an understatement.
David loved to share stories and with help from Maggie Woyan he even wrote a book "Oscar the Squirrel".
David was loved by so many and leaves behind a host of family and friends to name a few; brother Mike (Jamie) Sword of Port St. Lucie Fl., brother-in-law Wayne (Peggy) See special friends include; Ed and Donna Woomer, special friends at Rivers Health, Randall Hawkins, Cassie Counts, Brandy McCoy, Bobbi Jo, Autum, Vicki, Jamie Spires and Brandi, as well as his fur babies Bailey and Bentley.
David will live on in his kids, grandkids and devoted wife who will never stop loving him.
Services have been entrusted to Crow-Hussell Funeral Home and will be at the funeral home, Tuesday May 21, 2024 visitation will begin at 11:00 with a funeral service officiated by Pastor Mark Oliver beginning at 12:00 burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery with full military honors.
