Elaine (Smith) Harper, 91, of Point Pleasant, WV, died, Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at the Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was the granddaughter of William Finley Smith, noted riverboat builder and owner of Point Pleasant Dry Docks; she was a retired bookkeeper and manager of Harper Furniture in Point Pleasant and a member of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church and a member of numerous organizations.
Born, January 11, 1916, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William Russell and Belva (Blagg) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, George Orlan Harper.
She is survived by one daughter, Susan Adams of Bidwell, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, William Russell (Marga) Smith, Jr. of Springfield, Ohio; two nieces, Peggy Smith of Canal Winchester, Ohio (who was her special niece and caregiver) and Patti Smith of Richmond, Indiana and two great-nieces, Annie Vince and Megan Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2007, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Reverend John Holland, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. There will be a private burial on Friday, December 21, 2007.
