Elana Susan (Darst) Murphy, 75, a lifelong resident of Mason County passed away at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House in Huntington WV on 02/23/2024.
With nearly 30 years of service in the Mason County School System, she retired from teaching Home Economics at Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School. She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School Class of 1966 and earned her Bachelor and Masters Degrees from Marshall University, graduating Cum Laude, and was active with Alpha Delta Kappa Women's Educators Honor Sorority.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Viola Darst, Aunts and Uncles Sally Darst, Miles Darst, James Darst, Robert and Bernadine Kayser, Florence and Kenneth Roush, Joseph Kayser, Rupert and Ginny Kayser, Joyce and Herbert Tilley, Josephine Crandall, Carolyn and Neal Wilson. Nephew Robert Wilson, Niece Ginny Wilson, Cousins- Steven Darst, Kenny Roush, Carolyn Melrose, David Kayser, Steve Kayser, Larry and Donnie Kayser, and Joe Crandall, special friend Connie Mullins.
Surviving family members are her son, Timothy Patrick Murphy(Teresa and Grandsons, Peyton and Trenton Murphy of Gallipolis OH Sisters- Donna Baumgardner (Mervin)Leigh Acres FL , Cathy Wilson (John)Point Pleasant , and Brother-Robert Darst(Linda)Edinburgh VA, Aunt Dottie Eads, Nephews -Eli Wilson(Jessie), Curtis Darst(Deidre) Nieces- Brittany Williams (BJ), Kristy Baumgardner, Kelly Terebieniec.. Cousins-Brian Darst, Molly Tarbett, Susan Liberatore, Rosie Newcomb, Jim Wilson, Andy Wilson, Joyce Cochran, Magaret Hutchins, Allen Kayser, Dallas Kayser, Scott Kayser and Teresa Kinnaird. Special Friends Libby McClung, Mary Jane Getty, Ellie Schultz, Alice Darst, Wanda Boggess, and Diana Hudson and many other teachers, friends, and former students.
Her special joys were her grandsons, Peyton and Trenton and watching them grow up. They even shared the same birthday of November 7th. She enjoyed supporting them in their academic and athletic endeavors. She was an avid dog lover and owner of many beloved basset hounds in her lifetime, and reading and shopping. She loved to encounter many of her former students in the area as they would recall and share their memories of having her as a teacher. In her later years while a resident of Pleasant Valley Nursing Care Center, she participated in the Cooking Club, Book Club, Resident Council, and planning concerts for the residents enjoyment and decorating the halls during holidays. She really appreciated when dogs and other animals would come and visit the facility.
Celebration of Her Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Pt Pleasant WV with Pastor (and former student) Bob Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Suncrest Cemetery.
