Fern Newell Hartley, 93, of Point Pleasant died on Thursday May 1, 2014 at her home. Fern was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Point Pleasant.

She was born May 24, 1920 in Mason County, and a daughter of the late Verner M. Newell and Mary Gladys Barnette. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Harley H. Hartley, her brother Aubrey Newell and sister-in-law Betty Sayre Newell, he son-in-law William R. Capehart and niece Linda Newell Crump.

She is survived by daughter Sonja Capehart of Bradenton, FL and daughter and son-in-law Catherine M. and Thomas H. Staats of Point Pleasant; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Art and Murlin Hartley and Ethel Hartley of Point PLeasant; five grandchildren, Lisa Dawn Capehart, Staci Nicole Capehart, Cathy Jo Hood, Thomas Christopher Staats, and Kristen Ashley Staats; and six great Grandchildren, Nadia Fern Capehart, Melanie Catherine Millsap, Kristopher Robin Hood, Dillon Harley Hulse, Justin Thomas Staats and Ashley Nicole Staats; and a nephew Lonnie L. Newell.

Graveside service and burial will be held at 2PM on Tuesday May 6, 2014 at the Creston Cemetery in Leon, WV with Pastor Jim Kelly officiating.
