Obituary

Fredrick Nibert, Chief Warrant Officer 2, Retired, age 78, went home to his Lord on Tuesday evening, September 13, 2011, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. Fred was a 1951 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, in 1952 and spent four years, part of which, was in Okinawa as a Military Police Officer. Fred served two tours of duty in Germany with the West Virginia Army National Guard and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 2, in 1984, after twenty-six years of service. He also served one year of active duty in Louisiana. Fred elected early retirement on April 1, 1993, after 37 years with Appalachian Power Company, as an engineering technician.

Fred was very active in the community as well. He was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church; American Legion, Mason County Post #23; a scoutmaster with Boys Scout Troop #259; a volunteer with the Pleasant Valley Hospital Auxiliary; the Grand Square Dance Club; and a member of the PPHS Alumni Association. After retirement, Fred and June spent the winter months in Arizona and Florida. They enjoyed camping and fishing at APCO Campground, at Smith Mountain Lake, in Virginia and Lake Okeechobee, FL. Fred and June also had great fun at square dance festivals and loved bluegrass music, going to many festivals. They took many cruises and trips to Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and places in California and Mexico.

Fred was born December 31, 1932, in Apple Grove, WV, a son to the late Harry F. and Rose (Scholemer) Nibert. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Albert Howard "Bud" Nibert; and sisters, Florence Nibert, Mildred Nibert Wray and Evelyn Rose Nibert Cyrus.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Wilma June (Caudill) Nibert, of Point Pleasant; son and daughter-in-law, David Howard and Tina Nibert, of Point Pleasant; daughter and son-in-law, Debi (Nibert) and Rick Roach, Gallipolis; grandchildren, Jami, Scott and Lindsay Nibert, all of Point Pleasant; step grandchildren, Ricky Lee Roach and Zachary Roach, both of Gallipolis; step great-granddaughter, Arionna Roach, of Gallipolis; sisters, Mary Nibert Sims and Dorothy Nibert Langdon, both of Huntington; and his brothers Harry and Leona Nibert, Jr., of Punta Gorda, FL and Thomas H. Nibert, of Hurricane.

Fred's life will be remembered at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Richard Sargent officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens, with military honors being provided by the West Virginia Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Beale Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Janie Nibert Martin, 26075 Huntington Road, Apple Grove, WV, 25502.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Golden Herdman, Bob Paulson, Donnie Hudson, Jeff King, Stan Bordman and Steve Slack. Honorary pallbearers will be: Col. Jake Huffman, Tom O'Dell, Steve Chambers, Charles "Chuck" Stewart, Charlie Boggess and Jeff Preston.

Fred was a very kind, loving, caring and compassionate husband, father and friend to many with a wonderful personality, always having a sweet, sweet spirit. We will all miss him dearly. I will always love you, the love of my life…June.
