Obituary

Gary Allen "Chappy" Chapman, 71, passed into Heaven on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House, in Huntington. Gary was a former Security Officer for Holzer Medical Center and had been the Emergency Officer for the Point Pleasant Volunteer Fire Dept., where he was a member for nearly 35 years. He had also served as Fire Chief for a year and Assistant Chief for many years. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Stewart-Johnson Post # 9926 and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was born on February 8, 1946, in Point Pleasant, a son to the late Grover C. and Juanita "Sis" Chapman Hazelwood. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Mike Hazelwood, sister, Christine Higginbotham Brown, brothers-in-law, Ralph Fisher and Bob Swain and lifelong friend who was like a sister to him, Carolin Harris.

Gary is survived by his daughters Cora Beth Chapman, of Gallipolis and Angie (Roger) Workman, of Gallipolis Ferry; granddaughters, MaKenna and Madison and Katrina; grandsons, Jessie, David, Derek, Gage and Cameron; great-grandchildren, Ashton, Hunter and Adrianna; sisters Patty (Jeff) Whitman, Wanda Swain and Darlene Fisher, all of Point Pleasant; several nieces and nephews and extended family and a very dear, close and best friend, Eddie Sayre, whom he considered a brother.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Pastors Carl F. "Boxer" Swisher and Bob Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens, where full military graveside rites will be rendered by the W.V. Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Stewart-Johnson Post #9926. Gary will also be honored with a full firefighter's funeral by members of the Point Pleasant Volunteer Fire Dept., who will also serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
