George Marcus Vaughn, age 82, of Apple Grove, WV, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, August 5, 2015, with his family by his side, while in Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Point Pleasant. He started working at the age of 7, delivering newspapers in his little red wagon, was a farmhand for many years before working at the WV Dept. of Highways, in Point Pleasant and finally retiring from Williamson's Pallet Company, of Southside, after more than 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Louvina A. (Patterson) Vaughn; and infant son, Stevie Vaughn; a grandson, Ronald "June" Plumley, Jr.; infant great-granddaughter, Tiffany Plumley; infant great-grandson, Ronald Plumley, III; his parents, Marcus and Ethel (Casey) Vaughn; an infant brother, Joe Vaughn; a daughter-in-law, Rita "Charlie Brown" (Messick) Vaughn and son-in-law, Ronald "Ronnie" Plumley.
He is survived by a sister, who he loved to the moon and back, Beulah McGowan Cline; his children, Diane Plumley (Roy) Ruttan, George "Buck" (Laura) Vaughn, Clarence "Pete" Vaughn, all of Point Pleasant, Harley (Mary) Vaughn, of Patriot, OH and Georgie (Steve) Hupp, of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Bonnie (Wolford) Plumley, of Pomeroy, Shawn (Johanna) Plumley, of Poca, William "B.J." (Samantha) Smith, Jr. and Heather (Richard) Mayes, of Gallipolis Ferry, Kendra Vaughn, of Patriot, OH, Sasha (Jeremy) Bledsoe, of Gallipolis, Cass (Elizabeth) Vaughn and Marcus Vaughn, of Point Pleasant; and Jess Vaughn, great-grandchildren, Ricky and Hannah Plumley, of Pomeroy, Gage Plumley, of Gallipolis, William "Wes" III, Shayla, Hazleigh, Aubrey and Landyn Smith, Richard "A.J.", Jr. and RaeLeigh Mayes, all of Gallipolis Ferry, Brady Vaughn, of Patriot, OH, Jeremy Jr. and Wyndham Bledsoe, of Gallipolis, Isaiah and Araya Vaughn, of Point Pleasant and Bentley Vaughn, of Patriot, OH.
He had many nieces and nephews who are all dear to his heart. Special friends, "Weeny" and "Grandma", caregivers at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Junior Leport, Billy Smith, Jay Brumfield, Benny and Teri DeWeese, Linda Wright and too many friends to name.
George's life will be remembered at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Patterson-Clonch Cemetery, in Gallipolis Ferry. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, August 9, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family wishes to thank everyone at the Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center that provided loving and compassionate care during his years of living there.
