March 24, 1932 – May 2, 2023
Helen V. Underwood, 91 years young, of Point Pleasant, WV passed on Tuesday May 2, 2023 at 2:28 pm in her home in the arms of her beloved family. Helen was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, eight siblings and her husband William Underwood and her son Alan Underwood. Helen is survived by three siblings Tommy (Brenda) Whitt of Coal City WV, Gloria Nelson of Coal City WV and Kathey Bane of Beckley WV, her grandchildren Kelly (Travis) Wood of Ludlow, Ky. and Garrett (Lauren) Underwood of Mason WV, nine great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.
Helen was a kind and giving soul who often helped those in need. Helen took great pride in maintaining her beautiful home and enjoyed shopping, people watching and visiting with her family and friends. Helen was a great story teller and loved to tell her grandchildren about days of the past. Helen's favorite color was turqouise, her favorite food was pie, her favorite holiday was Christmas and her favorite season was Spring.
Helen was involved in the unofficial neighborhood watch program at her home of sixty-two years in Point Pleasant WV. She was a well known neighborhood favorite and enjoyed delightful conversation with her neighbors and friends. Helen was early to bed and early to rise and enjoyed medium roast black coffee with a side of biscuits and gravy in the morning. Helen liked to spend her evenings indulging in Christmas and love stories on the Hallmark Channel.
Why so many details in her obituary, you ask? Because Helen was a blessing in life. She loved her family and friends deeply and if I can give you just a glimpse of Helen, you will be as blessed as I am.
In life we loved her dearly. In death we love her still. In our hearts she'll hold a place that no one else can ever fill.
Helen has been laid to rest with her husband and son at the Donel C. Kinnard Veterans Cemetery, in Dunbar, West Virginia, following a private, family ceremony. You may offer condolences to the family via this webpage.
