Obituary

Homer Eugene Whittington went home to his Lord on Thursday morning, June 13, 2024. Homer was born October 7, 1932, in Leon, West Virginia, to William (Bill) and Mildred Whittington.

He served his country as a corporal in the U. S. Army 22nd Infantry Regiment in Germany in 1953-1954.  He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Occupation Germany Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. While attending the Allied Institute in Chicago, Homer married the love of his life, Ernestine Taylor on October 15, 1955.  Their union on earth set an example of love for almost 69 years. Homer worked for Broughton's as Mason county's milkman for 34 years, retiring in 1991.  He was a member and servant of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.

Homer was a wonderful father to Teresa (Raike) who predeceased him, and to his surviving children, Jenny (Eddy) Grimes, Ada, OH, Edie (Mark) Handley, Point Pleasant, and Charlie (Tara) Whittington, Tampa, FL. The 9 grandchildren that loved their "Papaw" or "Pappy" almost as much as he loved them are Josh and Cassy (David Sperling) Grimes, Seth, Amber and Rachel Williamson, Taylor and Sydney Raike, and Wyatt and Alexandra Whittington.  Two great grandchildren were blessed to know their great grandpappy also, Lynn and William. Along with Ernestine, Homer is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and close friend Tom Schauer.

There will be a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Rev. Carl "Boxer" Swisher officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. You may offer condolences to the family via this webpage.
