Captain Howard Ray Stewart, Age 61, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away on September 19th 2024, at Tristar Skyline Medical Center, in Nashville Tennessee.

Ray was a captain for Campbell's Transportation Company and had spent over 40 years working on the river. When asked about his work he would reply, "Where else can you work six months a year in shorts and flip-flops?!" He truly loved his work.

Ray was the son of the late Henry and Delia Stewart. Beside his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Walker. Ray was a 1981 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and found his calling on the riverboats where he felt the most at home and at peace.

Ray is survived by his wife, Sheryl Stewart of Point Pleasant, WV; son Adam (Amity) Stewart, daughter Ashlee (Cameron) Scott, Autumn (Levi) Hamon, Derek (Amanda) Watts; grandchildren, Trenton, Emily, Wesson, Eva, Luke, Garrett, River, Nevaeh; brother, Henry (Deanna) Stewart; sisters, Mary (John) Cooper, and Opal (Jim) Hupp; nieces and nephews, Jimmy Hupp, Bill Hupp, Lori Shobe, Joey Stewart, Megan Kinnard, Heidi Rainey, David Hudson, Jessie Waugh, and Jeremy Walker.

Services will be at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with visitation Thursday September 26, 2024, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery..
