Rev. Jack D. Mayes, 82, of Point Pleasant, was carried by angels into the presence of his Lord and Savior, on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Ohio University Medical Center, in Columbus, Ohio. Jack was a minister with the West Virginia United Methodist Conference and was the pastor of the Beech Hill U.M.C. and Salem Community Church and had pastored six churches in Mason County. He was also a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Jack was an instructor in the auto-diesel field throughout the Southeastern United States. He was a professional bluegrass musician and was also a church marketing representative with Olan Mills. Jack was also the co-owner of Main St. Photography, in Point Pleasant.
Jack was born December 21, 1934, in Salisbury, Ohio, a son to the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mayes. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his children, Paul Lee, Patricia Hurst and Debra Hummer; and three siblings.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Stewart) Mayes; his children, Roy and Kelly Mayes, of Bidwell; Teresa (Kinney Baughman) Lee and Brian Lee, all of Boone, NC and Jack Mayes, Jr., of Wharton, TX; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially Avery and Emma, who were the light of his life; brother, Walter Mayes, of FL; and sisters, Betty Hopper, of TN and Virginia Hooper, of FL.
Jack's life will be remembered at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the First Church of God Ministry Center, 2401 Jefferson Ave., Point Pleasant, WV, 25550, with Pastor and friend, Bob Patterson officiating. Private burial will be held in Beech Hill Cemetery, Southside, with military honors. Visitation will be held at the First Church of God Ministry Center on Monday evening, July 10, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
