Obituary

James Thomas Brown, known first as Jimmy then Jim as became older, joined his parents, older brother, and niece in Heaven on August 6, 2021  He was the only one of his siblings to be born in Point Pleasant WV and delivered by his father at home on a very cold March 28, 1948.  So cold, the story goes, between contractions, his father ran to the basement to add coal to the furnace.

Family that preceded Jim in death are:  his father C. Leonard Brown MD, his mother Melba Postlethwait Brown RN, his brother Charlie Brown Jr., his niece Charla Brown McGuire, and his beloved high school friends Dan Love and John Hyer.

Surviving Jim are:  his sisters Pat Markley, Nancy Brown, nephews Charlie Brown III and Chris Keezel, nieces Kim o'Leary and Lindsey Markley, great nephews Dalton and Tanner and a great niece, and very devoted cousin Richard Cole.

Jim was a kind, mannerly child, a good boy.  As a teen he loved playing sports, wore #32 jersey (aka pro  player James Brown) for the Pt Pleasant Big Blacks and his dad was team doc.  Jim attended WVU, Marshall U, and U of Rio Grande.  He joined the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, attaining PFC rank, serving at Beaufort SC marine air base.

His life saw much tragedy, when he was a youth was shot in the eye with a stray BB (still lodged in his eye) from the neighbor boy, bit by rabid dog as a youth, as a teen Jim was unable to save a drowning dear friend, when a teen discovered the dead body of drug overdosed other dear friend, and then the early death of his only brother, and most recently niece.  Jim's mother loved him with all her heart.  No mother could have been more devoted to a child.

His family would like to recognize Lakin Nursing Home staff for the quality care they give each resident and the tough jobs they do everyday.  Also appreciation goes to the entire Point Pleasant close knit community for showing that small town look after each other behavior, in their looking out for and helping  Doc Brown's boy, when he was between homes.

Jim's remains will be laid by his parents and paternal grandparents, which are also near his brother and great grandparents.  Service is graveside only, closed casket, at Suncrest Cemetery in Pt Pleasant, Wednesday August 11, at 11am, with Pastor Brian May officiating.  Crow Hussell Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements and the family thanks them for caring and always being so gracious to memorialize our family members.
