Jim's family moved to Point Pleasant when he was a senior in high school. Jim spent most of his high school years growing up in Paris, Tennessee. Jim spoke a few times of how he and his brother Tom would swim in the waters of Tennessee which is now called the Tennessee Valley Authority, this did not set well with mom and dad because the pair did not always ask before they dove in. The move to Point Pleasant was initially hard for Jim because of his age it was tough to make close friendships with graduation just around the corner.

JIm played baseball for the Big Blacks under coach Jack Rogers, where Jim pitched and his brother Tom played second base. Jim would also play basketball for the Big Blacks, later in life Jim became an avid tennis player and would compete in local tournaments, he even sparked a rivalry with Bill McCormick the two of them would have very competative matches, and though Jim never beat Bill he always looked forward to the competion and enjoyed those matches thoroughly.

Jim loved watch and supporting his kids and grandkids in their sporting activities in both Point Pleasant as well as Bethesda Md. Jim was an avid fan of the Pittsburg Steelers, The Herd and Mountaineers football as well as the Duke Blue Devils basketball teams in his later years, he also attended both Rio Grande College and Marshall University.

Jim worked as a department head for J.C. Penney's Stores, was an Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Best Foods Division of C.P.C. International before returning to the family business, Fishers Stores, Inc. started by his father, the late James T. Fisher. Jim eventually left the family business and worked for Fruth Pharmacy, Inc. as the Advertising and Purchasing Manager. Jim would interface with many individuals through out his life as a local businessman and father. Jims abilities as an advertiser were highly effective and very respected.
