James A. "Pops" Miller, Sr., 82, of Middleport, went to be with his Lord on Monday evening, April 26, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center, in Huntington. He was retired from the Ohio Dept. of Transportation and had also been a riverboat captain. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. He also had owned Logan Monument Company. He was a member of the Calvary Christian Church and was an ordained minister of the Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic.
He was born January 20, 1928, in Point Pleasant, a son to the late Warren W. and Charlotte Mae (Swisher) Miller. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Katie Karo (McGown) Miller; two sons, John Owen and James A. Miller, Jr.; two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Miller and Charles Miller, both of Middleport; two daughters, Tina Northup, of Middleport and Deborah Connolly, of Point Pleasant; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Warren "Sonny" and Patty Miller, of Point Pleasant; and special friends, Rick and Pam Patterson, Mark and Mary Kimes and family and Dave and Janice Boyd.
Pop's life will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, where memories will be shared and will be concluded by Pastor Carl Swisher. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and asks that you dress casually for the evening. Private burial will be observed. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
