We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of James Ray Smith, who was born on March 20, 1930, in Leon, WV., he passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

James was the beloved son of Jams and MonaSmith. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Ellestine Smith, with whom he shared a beautiful life. They were blessed with two children, Deborah (Robert) Martin and Sherry (Alan) Pearson, also survived by siblings, Cecil (Wanda) Smith and Audrey (Charles) Clendenin.

James was a devoted family man and a proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Dustin (candace) Pearson, Jason (Jaynie) Martin, Britlan Pearson and Alyssa Martin, also seven great-grandchildren; Talon, Ella, Cross, Cardie, Emy, Caiden and Crew, one very special niece, Jodi Shinn, who all lit up his world in his later days.

James served his country in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran and was dedicated and committed to his community.

James had a passion for woodworking, trains and fixing clocks. He enjoyed spending his free time pursuing these hobbies and sharing his knowledge and skills with others. He also enjoyed attending New Hope Church in Point Pleasant.

James will be dearly missed by all who know him. His legacy of love, kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

James will be laid to rest on Sunday, November 3, 2024, with a private graveside service at Bethel Cemetery in Leon, WV. Family and friends may express condolences online at crowhussellfh.com.
