James Douglas Thompson, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, in Huntington, with his family by his side. He retired from Hobbs Metals, of Tarpon Springs, FL. He enjoyed many hobbies such as: hunting, fishing, reading and was an outstanding mechanic, spending much of his time under the hood of a car. He attended Willis High School, in Delaware, OH and then served six years in the U.S. Army. A few years after being honorably discharged from the Army, in 1966, he married Helen M. (Williams) Thompson (now divorced), with whom he had three children.
Surviving are his son, James Douglas Thompson, Jr., of Reedsville, OH; his daughter, Edith Marie Thompson, of Point Pleasant; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, five siblings, several nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Thompson; nine siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
James Douglas Thompson "Doug" will be remembered as an outstanding person, always kind to others and was loved by many. Funeral services to honor Doug will be conducted at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, 2015, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Bob Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Hambrick Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.
