Obituary

Joe Dandridge Tavan, 83, of Apple Grove, West Virginia, died Sunday,
June 22, 2008, at his home. He was retired from Army Corps of Engineers with the Gallipolis Lock and Dam as a lockman and he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran during WWII serving with the 4th Marine Division at Iwo Jima where he was wounded. He had also attended Pleasant View Church.

He was born March 12, 1925 in Omar, West Virginia to the late Joe and Olivia (Buskirk) Tavan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Oselene (Kimberling) Tavan; two brothers, Beck and John Tavan and two sisters, Mary Montcastle and Virginia Aten.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Larry Taylor of Apple Grove; a granddaughter, Valerie Taylor of Point Pleasant; a sister, Rosalie Rood of Grove City, Ohio; a special friend and cousin, John Wallace.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Pastor Carl Swisher and Robert L. Patterson, II. officiating. Burial will follow in Beale Chapel Cemetery, Apple Grove, West Virginia. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
