Obituary

John Fredrick Cooper, 87, Point Pleasant, died peacefully on February 17, 2024. He joined his beloved wife, Loretta, and son, Johnny, in Heaven after a long illness. John left his earthly journey just short of his "real" Leap Year birthday of February 29th. He was born February 29, 1936, in Cabell Co., to the late Fred and Mary Woodrum Cooper. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Loretta June Dunlap Cooper; and son, John Fredrick "Johnny" Cooper, II; brothers, James, Jackie and Frank Cooper; sister, Maxine Blankenship.

John deeply loved his family. His grandchildren adored and respected him. He always followed goodbyes with an I love you. His grandchildren were his pride and joys. He enjoyed attending many of their school events and other activities. As a grandfather he stepped up BIG. His great-grandchildren were the highlights in his later years and he especially loved to know their interests and activities. He was a wonderful provider and loving father. John worked tirelessly on keeping his property manicured and his home and car ever so neat. He loved his extended family of in laws, nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending much of his retirement enjoying both. He, like Loretta, was known for doing things perfectly. John happily served his Sacred Heart Church in many capacities. He was known by many as a great man. He retired from Constellium Rolled Products Ravenswood.

John is survived by his daughters, Pam (Bruce) Nibert, Elizabeth "Bunny" Patterson; grandchildren; Ryan (Jenny) Johnson, Luke (Steffani) Patterson, Loren (Derrick) Watterson, and Ashley Siders; great-grandchildren; Hunter & Bailey Johnson, Luke Patterson, Liam, Izabel and Chloe Sellers, Cy & Autumn Watterson, Harry Cooper & Presley Siders; Goddaughter, Hannah Milhoan; sisters, Joyce Sherritt and Shirley (James) Jordan.

At John's request, there will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Kirkland Memorial Gardens. The funeral procession will leave Crow-Hussell Funeral Home at 12:40 p.m., if you would like to travel to the cemetery with the family. Crow-Hussell Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

The family would like to express their love and appreciation for the compassionate and loving care provided by the staff of the Pleasant Valley Health Center and Rehab. The staff were more than that, they were second family to John and his family. They worked tirelessly, lovingly and
gently provided for all his needs. A very special thank you to Dr. Ayers for his compassion and care for John.
