John H. McDermitt, Jr., 79, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, from injuries due to an automobile accident.  He was retired from the Pipefitters Union Local 521, Huntington, WV.  He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 731, Point Pleasant.  He also was a gold panner.  John kept a watchful eye over his nieces and nephews, Susie Wooten, Teresa Hereford, Donnie McDermitt, Matt Patterson and the late Pearl "Ed" McDermitt.

He was born September 28, 1941, in Point Pleasant, a son to the late John H. and Opal (Froideveaux) McDermitt.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Pearl E. McDermitt and great-granddaughter, Kynnedee Hanson.

John is survived by his loving wife, Patsy (Patterson) McDermitt, daughter and son-in-law, Opal and Brian Sims, of Mineral Wells, WV; son, John McDermitt, III, of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Ashton McDermitt, Tara and Zach Hanson, Anthony Ramsey, Eden (Joshua) Pennington and Raevin Sims; great grandchildren, Bryson, Aaryah and Irelynn Hanson, Macy, Dillen, Damon, and Baby Boy Pennington; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be a graveside service for family and friends at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Forest Hills Cemetery, with Rev. Carl "Boxer" Swisher officiating.  Burial will follow. All other services will be private.
