John W. Meadows, age 94, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at Holzer Medical Center, in Gallipolis, after a long illness. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served during WWII, having landed with the first wave of the 4th Infantry Division, at Utah Beach, in Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local #317, in Huntington, where he was a 68-year member. John also loved being outdoors, where he loved to hunt and spend time at his cabin.
John was born on September 2, 1922, in Beech Hill, a son to the late Thorden and Margaret (Dye) Meadows. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Roy, Everett, James "Jimmy" and Virgil Meadows; and sister, Dorothy "Tootsie" Spurlock.
John is survived by his wife, Faye (VanSickle) Meadows; sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Katrina Meadows, of St. Leonard, MD and John Craig and Niki Meadows, of Point Pleasant; granddaughter, Stacey Meadows and her husband Jonathan Carter, of Baltimore, MD; great-grandchildren, Dean and great-granddaughter forthcoming; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Marker and Pastor Bob Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be rendered by the W.V. Honor Guard. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, from 11:00 a.m. to until the time of the service.
