Juanita
Matheny
November 18, 1937 – February 4, 2025
Juanita Matheny, 87, of Point Pleasant, WV, went to be with the Lord February 4, 2025, at home surrounded by family. We take comfort in knowing she is now resting in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Juanita was born November 18, 1937, in Gallipolis Ferry, WV, a daughter to the late Charles Edward Simpkins and Iva Mae Litchfield Simpkins. She was a faithful servant of the Lord at Krebs Chapel United Methodist Church. She retired from Pleasant Valley Hospital, at which time she took care of and loved on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Christine Matheny; son-in-law, Samuel Beckner, sisters; Faye (Ira) Henry, Beulah (Jim) Nibert, brothers; Chester (Betty) Simpkins, Melvin (Gertrude) Simpkins, Wilbur (Ruth) Simpkins, and Okey Simpkins.
Juanita is survived by her husband of 68 years, Homer McClellen Matheny, children; Loretta (Rick) Sims, Freda Beckner, and Donald (Becky) Matheny, grandchildren; Scott (Brandi) Smith, Taleah (John) Taylor, Mandy Siders, Brittany (Jerad) Leach, Donald Matheny, Jr., RJ (Raechel) Neal, and Andrea (Travis Rodgers) Sims, great-grandchildren; Jordan and Kyleigh Taylor, Savannah and Sydney Siders, Kaden Fields, Kyler Smith, Brycen Leach, Trey Sims, and Talyn Rodgers, and sister-in-law; Bonnie Simpkins.
Whether you called her Mom, Mama, or Mama Granny, she had a special place in her heart for each and every person, but her great-grandchildren definitely held the most special place (even though she wished they would dress better). They were the only ones who could get away with touching her clean windows without getting in trouble! Even though some of them are fully grown adults, she would still rock them in her rocking chair any chance she would get. She was an amazing cook and blessed her family (and anyone who would show up) with her gift every Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (or any other time). No one could ever hang up the phone or leave without an "I love you". She would take care of her neighbors anytime they needed anything, for as long as she could. She was blessed to have her church family and enjoyed spending time with them in and out of church.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Pastors and family friends, Bob Patterson and Mark Williams officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, two hours prior to the service. She will be laid to rest at Concord Cemetery in Henderson, WV following the service.
