Kay Ellen Gygax, age 80, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Rivers Health Center, in Point Pleasant, WV.

Kay was born March 9, 1945, in Gallipolis, OH, to the late William H. Gygax and Hilda Mae Wartenburg Gygax. She was a 1963 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and went on to what is now Concord University to earn her B.A. in Education.

She returned home to Point Pleasant and began her career working for Mason County Schools from 1977 until 2006, when she retired. During her time in the school system, she was a beloved physical education teacher as well as several years as the girls Basketball coach.

Kay was a very active woman; she loved being outside and enjoyed basketball, tennis and was an avid golfer.

She is survived by an aunt, Anne Hite, of Point Pleasant; cousins, Sharon (Dan) Foglesong, of Leon and Sandra (Jim) Dunn, of Southside. She also leaves behind her special friends and neighbors, Ryan and Allison Corriveau, to whom she was simply known as "Mamma Kay"; along with her beloved fur babies, Happy Cat, Bob-Bob and Buck-O.
