Kent Yonker, 49, of Mason, West Virginia, died Wednesday afternoon, September 3, 2008, at his home. He was employed at Toyota Motor Manufacturing of WV (TMMWV) and was also a member of Mason United Methodist Church.
Kent served as a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard from 1983 to 1998 with service as full time AGR spanning 13 years. During his service Kent performed work in first supply logistics and then later unit administrative functions and attained the rank of Sergeant E5. Kent was awarded medals for his professional development as a Non-Commissioned Officer, the Army Commendation Medal for outstanding service, the Humanitarian Service Ribbon, the National Defense Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. During his 15 years of service Kent was well respected for his knowledge and contributions to unit missions and support of the service.
He was born, May 31, 1959, in Gallipolis, Ohio to Danny and Charlotte (Cook) Yonker. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Darlene (Spears) Yonker; his two sons, Erik and Darren Yonker, both at home; one brother, Kevin (BJ) Yonker of Mason, West Virginia; a mother-in-law, Shirley J. Spears of Point Pleasant and one grandson, Dylan Yonker.
Funeral services will be private with Robert L. Patterson, II and Dennis Rayburn officiating and there will be no calling hours. Crow-Hussell Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
