Kip Hess Hartenbach, 74, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 30, 2015, at Holzer Medical Center. Kip was born on November 11, 1941, in Athens, Ohio, a son to the late Earl and Virginia (Hess) Hartenbach.
He was a retired educator in Mason County Schools, where he taught at Central and Ordnance Elementary Schools, and Miller Elementary, in Huntington. He was a 1959 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and also a graduate of Marshall University and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, where he was a licensed funeral director and embalmer with Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary and Crow-Hussell Funeral Home. Kip was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He served a term on Point Pleasant City Council. Kip was an avid fan of Marshall University Football and Basketball Athletics, loved to golf and loved his family.
Kip is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carolyn (Costen) Hartenbach; daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Matt Swartz, of Grove City, OH; grandsons, Chandler and Caden Swartz; and his brother, Jeff Hartenbach, of Columbus, OH.
Kip's life will be remembered at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist, with Rev. James Kelley, III officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home on Saturday, January 2, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 615 Viand St., Point Pleasant, WV, 25550.
