Lake Richard
Duncan
June 14, 1934 – February 8, 2024
This past Thursday evening, February 8th, 2024, Lake Richard "Dickie" Duncan passed away peacefully at the Arbors at Pomeroy in Pomeroy, OH and was surrounded by close family. Dickie was 89 years young and lived his remarkable life to the absolute fullest - even served in the army alongside Elvis Presley in the late 1950s!
He earned his GED after dropping out of school in the 8th grade to offer supplemental support to his family when his father's diabetes led to blindness. Throughout his life, he proudly served the church with his late wife Gerry as a Good Shepherd United Methodist youth leader. He read the Bible more than 13 times cover to cover! He was a Coal Truck Supervisor, a meticulous mechanic, an avid coin collector, a die-hard WWF Fanatic, a fantastic grandfather and enjoyed his retirement with friends and family when SEVEN heart attacks forced him to retire after a 40-year career with Kaiser Aluminum Plant! A dedicated servant of God and family. He believed in the power of prayer and the promise of eternity in Heaven with the Good Lord. He was a lifelong member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of Flatrock, WV. He never knew a stranger and provided endless conversation and entertainment to friends and family.
He was also a fighter! He's endured far more than one man's share of pain and suffering in his lifetime; prostate cancer, metal rods in his back, debilitating arthritis, broken bones, heart disease, countless surgeries and his own little pharmacy of medications! Through all of that, he has also had great privilege in his life... he raised three unquestionably beautiful daughters who brought him great joy over the years. They are precious and important in a way no one else can compare as they are a part of his legacy. Dee, Malea and Teresa, along with their husbands, have become the strongest branches to his ever-growing family tree that has expanded from their simple family of five to a blessing-filled 47!!! What a rich, rich life his was!
He was loved by many and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dickie is survived by his 3 daughters Dee (Danny) Taylor of Letart, WV; Malea (Edward) Young of Pomeroy, OH; and Teresa (Joe) Krumpak of Winfield,KS. As well as, 9 grandchildren {"Papaw"} to Robbie (Melissa) Taylor, Richie (Melissa) Taylor, DJ Taylor, Amy (David) Medley, Stephanie (Kristian) Pelton, Charlie (Caitie) Young, Derek (Dyana) Young, Michelle (Patrick) Bloedel, & Matthew (Alexa) Krumpak along with 21 beautiful GREAT-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 beloved younger sibling, Linda (and her late husband Doug) Arrington - the last of 8 children in the Duncan family and 2 sisters-in-law, Virginia (Ginny) Duncan and Frankie Duncan.
Preceded in death by his parents, Dale Albert and Delphia Minerva (Viers) Duncan, and 5 brothers, Dale Jr. (and his late wife Gloria), Rex (Darlene), Donald (Frankie), James (and his late wife Janice), Jackie (and his late wife Kathy), and 1 sister Katherine (and her late husband Larry) Jordan.
There will be a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Flatrock. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday. Dickie's care and the care of his family have been entrusted to Crow-Hussell Funeral Home.
