Leo Benton Smith, 85, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2011, at his home while surrounded by his family. Leo was the owner and founder of L&M Amusement Co. and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S. Hercules, during the Pacific Theater of WWII. Leo was born on May 6, 1926, in Lavalette, WV, a son to the late Pascal and Marie (Morrison) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Adkins; and son-in-law, Kenneth Jones.
Leo is survived by his wife, Linda (Morris) Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Judith Ann and Jim Berry, of Pinch, WV, Patty and Chuck Thomas, of Charlton Heights, WV and Kathy Jones, of Boomer, WV; step-children and their spouses, Ellen and John Ross, Elaine and Ronnie Lively, all of Point Pleasant and Mervin "Bud" and Nadine Rice, of Florence, KY; grandchildren, Danny, Bob and Nathan Berry, Shane and Zachary Thomas, Alicia Thomas Treadway, Adrian Thomas Smith, Kevin, Karen and Kendra Jones; step-grandchildren, Michael and Amy Ross, Ronnie Lively, Jr. and Devin, Noelle and Celine Rice; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Nicholas, Hannah, Emma, Andrew, Matthew, Dylan, Landon, Gianna and Alexa; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Jimmy and Marcia Smith, Homer and Sharon Smith, Buford and Joann Smith, Bonnie Smith, George Pascal and Jenny Smith and Barbara and Jimmy Beckley; his uncle, who was like a brother, Clair Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
Leo's life will be remembered at 12:30 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Patterson officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place on Sunday, December 4, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at the Smith-Riggs Cemetery, in Wayne County, where Military Graveside Rites will be observed.
