Lonnie Spurlock, Jr., 78, of Point Pleasant, died Monday evening, January 28, 2008, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House, Huntington, WV. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant. He had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 as a staff sergeant and had worked 34 years as a coal miner (electrician) where he retired in 1988 from Southern Ohio Coal after 15 years.
He was born, July 24, 1929, in Ethel, West Virginia, to the late Lonnie and Myrtle (Phipps) Spurlock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Chase Spurlock.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta (Mullins) Spurlock of Point Pleasant; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Danny and Candy Spurlock of Point Pleasant and Aaron and Kara Spurlock of Huntington, West Virginia and a daughter and son-in-law, Shelia (Spurlock) and Robert Galloway of Davie, Florida; three sisters, Madeline McNeely, Alma Kirkendall and Milford Evans and one brother, Carl Spurlock; seven grandchildren, Shannon Casto and husband (Chris) of Milton, West Virginia, Nikki Soulsby and husband (Bill) and Chad Spurlock and wife (Amber) all of Point Pleasant, Daniel Galloway of Taylorsville, Utah, Kevin Galloway of Davie, Florida, Darian Spurlock and Ty Spurlock, both of Huntington, West Virginia and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, January 31, 2008, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant, with Reverend Richard DeQuasie, officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m until 12:00 noon before the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill, West Virginia with a graveside service to take place at 4:00 p.m., with Pastor Carl Swisher, officiating.
