Louis Rossi , 85, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday morning, December 31, 2008, at his home after a long illness.
Louis graduated from Buffalo High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate Third Class in the Armed Guard Unit and received special recognition for his outstanding bravery and devotion to duty during World War II.
Louis moved to Mason County in 1950 and worked at Kyger Creek Power Plant for several years. He was a barber in Point Pleasant for 34 years, retiring at the age of 74. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant for over 50 years, where he served for many years as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and on various other committees. He was a dedicated member of the Lions Club for more than 50 years and served on the Point Pleasant City Council and remained interested in politics until his death. He was an outgoing person who truly enjoyed people and he never met a stranger.
Louis was born on June 7, 1923 in Lowesville, Virginia to James and Phoebe (Thacker) Rossi and was raised in Buffalo, WV by Anna McCoy, E.D. McCoy and Emma McCoy. In addition to his parents and those who raised him he was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Henrietta Fruth Rossi and his son, Henry David Rossi.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James Louis and Sharry Rossi of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Evan and Carly Rossi of Huntington, David Rossi of Point Pleasant, RJ and Sarah Roush of Millwood and Brittany and Bill Chambers of Parkersburg; great-grandchildren, Carson and Raelee Chambers; a sister, Mae Marino of South Charleston and a sister-in-law, Frances Fruth of Point Pleasant.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant with the Reverend Richard DeQuasie, officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2009, at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant and one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.
