Lynn (Smith) Durst, 75, of Point Pleasant, entered the nearer presence of God on Wednesday evening, March 9, 2011, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. Lynn was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School, Point Pleasant, West Virginia and attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she majored in Secretarial Science.
Lynn was a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant, a member of the DAR, and participated in many civic activities. Lynn was the manager and co-owner of Kirkland Memorial Gardens and she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where she served on the vestry and was church historian. She was an avid gardener and was honored by receiving the Yard of the Month award.
Lynn was born, August 1, 1935, in Kaylong, WV. Lynn was the daughter of the late Homer S. and Virginia E. (Knight) Smith. In addition to her parents, Lynn was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amy Boggs.
Lynn is survived by one son, Kevin Durst of Point Pleasant, WV; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan L. (Ray) Patrick of Hurricane, WV; her longtime companion, Jack Fowler of Point Pleasant, WV; one sister, Nancy S. Jewell of Charleston, WV and her grandchildren, Lauren Durst, Seth Patrick, Kelsey Patrick and Jarrod Durst. She is also survived by a niece, Heather Martin and two nephews Gregory Jewell and Eric Jewell along with two great nephews and four great nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Christ Episcopal Church, with Father Ray Hage officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens near Point Pleasant. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday evening, March 12, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and ½ hour prior to the service.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church Endowment Fund.
