Mary Lavena (Whittington) Tompkins age 91 of Point Pleasant passed away Saturday March 22, 2025. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth M. Tompkins, Sr., Father Lester F. Whittington, Sr., Mother Bertha H. (Meyers) Whittington, brother James Whittington and her sister Phyllis A. Whittington, she is survived by her younger brother Lester. F. Whittington, Jr.
Mary is also survived by daughters Deborah (Scott) Martin, and Vanessa (Pete) Williams, and son Kenneth M. (Jr.), son Thomas A. (Diane), and son Roger Scott. Grandchildren Dawn (Adam) Kelley, Amanda (Bryan) Yarhouse, Candace Deollos, Josh (Amanda) Tompkins, Nickolas Bevan, Thomas (Jessica) Tompkins, Charice Tompkins, Rebekah (Jay) Savage.
Great-grandchildren Justin, Connor, Maegan, Brittany, Paris, Olivia, Morgan, Felicity, Trinity, Kaden, Daxton, Trenten, Colton, Carson, also Great-great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Ezra, Alina, AJ, Beau, Caiden and Ronan, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from Point Pleasant High School May 1952, moved with her sister Phyllis to Columbus where she met her future husband Kenneth through mutual friends, they were married July 10th, 1954. They settled in Johnstown, Ohio, Mary was a home maker until the kids were gone then assisted her husband helping to grow his insurance agency.
After retiring and moving back to Point Pleasant, Mary volunteered at (Pleasant Valley Hospital) now known as Rivers Health Hospital, both Mary and husband Kenneth volunteered for 9 years serving a total of 3,000 hours each.
Mary was very dedicated to her family, holidays were special, she made sure everyone was well fed with her chicken and noodles at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and of course many, many pumpkin pies.
Memorial service will be Saturday April 5, 2025, at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home beginning at 1:00.
