Obituary

Nicholas Stanley Berent, 69, stood his last post at his home in Gallipolis, Ohio. Early Friday morning, September 2, 2016, surrounded by family, Nick was relieved of his duties and quietly took his leave from this earth and has taken his place guarding those golden streets of heaven. Semper Fi –

Nick was born in Buffalo, New York, to the late Stanley and Edna (Nestor) Berent, November 30, 1946. He graduated from Brookside High School in Sheffield, Ohio. He married Virginia Ann Lewis on February 8, 1978 in Vermillion Ohio. Nick was a proud marine serving two tours in Viet Nam with the United States Marine Corps. Most recently, he served as Judge Advocate and Commandant of the MGM Detachment #1180, Department of West Virginia Marine Corps League. Although Nick received many awards in the USMC and the Marine Corps League, the comraderies were much more important to him.
Nick retired from Ford Motor Company after 32 years of service and later operated an Amish transportation service traveling all over the US and in Canada with his Amish friends and neighbors. He enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie and hunting on his "mountain" in Gallia County. He also enjoyed teaching his nephews and grandson to shoot.

Services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Fellowship of Faith Church, 20344 Ohio Route 554, Bidwell, OH. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm. A memorial service with military honors will begin at 3 pm with pastors Jamie Sisson and Marshall Bonecutter officiating.

Nick is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ann, son, Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer, Joseph R. Berent (Christy), Elizabeth City, NC; daughters: Nicole R. Starrick (Rodger), Brunswick, OH; Kristina M. Camden (Robert), Wheelersburg, OH; Nikki L. McCombs (Aryan), Southpoint, OH; Jamie L. Berent, Southpoint, OH; grandchildren: Courtney Munden (Robert), Vinton, VA; Heather Berent, Huntington, WV; Megan Starrick, Brunswick, OH; Xavier, Rowan, Orion and Elijah Camden, Wheelersburg, OH; Sunshine McCombs, Southpoint, OH; siblings; John Berent, (Kathy), Marblehead, OH; Janet Hixon (Howard), Elyria, OH; Greg Berent, (Linda),Lagrange, KY; Paul Berent, Lorain, OH, close cousin, Joseph Slazak, (Penelope), Cheektowaga, NY. He also had several special nieces and nephews. Additionally, Nick was blessed with honorary children, Paul and Melissa Hershberger, (Ella and Liam); Simon and Dora Hershberger, (Katie, Verba, Robert, Daniel, Simon, and Marvin) and Anna Hershberger.
