F. Paul Wood, 79, of Point Pleasant, WV, died Wednesday evening, October 14, 2009, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. Paul was a United States Marine Corps veteran retiring as a WO4 from USMCR Company A, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Cross Lanes, WV. Paul was also a former employee and later owner of the Point Service Store, owned the New Haven Theatre, managed the Mason Drive-In and State Theatre and also led the restoration project at the State Theatre. Paul had also been employed by the Mason County Board of Education School Maintenance Dept.
Paul was known and recognized for his civic involvement. He was a member of the AF & AM Minturn Lodge #19, a member of the Solid Waste Authority and former member of the Fort Randolph Committee. Paul was a volunteer for the Point Pleasant River Museum and helped to build the museum and was also recognized as a Master by the River Museum Foundation. Paul volunteered at the Christmas Light Show at Krodel Park and was also a former Fire Chief for the Point Pleasant Fire Department. He was recognized as Volunteer of the Year for the Main Street Point Pleasant Organization. Paul was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, where he served as a church usher and was a former vestryman.
Born November 21, 1929, in Point Pleasant, he was a son of the late William L. and Olive V. (Medors) Wood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles, Elmer, Lewis, Ray, Donald, Robert, Jimmy Lynn and Clarence Clinton, all of whom served in various branches of the military; and his brother-in-law, Bruce Dennis.
Paul is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" (Buckner) Wood; son and daughter-in-law, William "Chip" and Heather (Rulen) Wood, of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Elicia Faith and Ian Matthew Wood, the apples of Paul's eye; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Barbara Wood and Jimmy and Judi Wood; sister, Sybil Dennis, all of Point Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Christ Episcopal Church, in Point Pleasant, with Father Ray Hage and Mother Marie Mulford officiating. Burial will be held at Kirkland Memorial Gardens, with Military Graveside Honors conducted by the West Virginia Honor Guard, Marine Corps Division Unit. Visitation will be held at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home on Friday, October 16, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Christ Episcopal Church, P.O.
