Obituary

Peter Arlington Young, 75, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away on December 13, 2013 at his home. He was born March 20, 1938 in Petersburg, WV, a son to the late Peter and Bertha (Southerly) Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Edward Young.

Pete was a 1957 graduate of Point Pleasant High school and a fullback on the 1956 Big Blacks football team. He scored a total of 23 touchdowns and 23 two-point conversions. He was a multi-year letterman in both football and basketball. After high school, he attended Baldwin Wallace College on a football scholarship then went to work for Goodyear where he retired after 39 years of service. He was a licensed pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was an avid hunter and trout fisherman making annual trips to the Williams River.


He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 49 years and two daughters, Cathy Swann and Stacy Rainey, all of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Tammy, Heather, Cody, Kaci, Kristi, McKensie and Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Zach, Lane and Braxton. In addition, he is survived by three brothers, Bill (Naomi) Southerly of Shalimar, Florida, Pat (Linda) Young of Webster, Florida, Gary (Paula) Young of Albertsville, Alabama.
His body has been donated to Marshall University School of Medicine.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00p.m., on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Carl "Boxer" Swisher officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Pete's care has been entrusted to Crow-Hussell Funeral Home.
