R. Michael Shaw, Sr. age 75, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully on January 21 at his home, surrounded by loved ones.  Mike was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on April 25, 1943 to Rhoda Carroll Shaw Ping and Ralph Edward Shaw, both deceased.

Mike is survived by an extensive and loving family, who will miss him dearly and remember him always. His two daughters from his first marriage (to Virginia Armentrout Shaw) – are Denise Shaw Wallace and Michelle Shaw Sexton (husband Will).  From his marriage and ongoing loving relationship - to Irene Shaw Murphy – he had a son, Michael Shaw, Jr. (wife Sarah) and a stepdaughter, Ashley Murphy.  His children provided him with 7 grandchildren – Jacqueline, Jenna, Beau, Bella, Cole, Taylor, and Katie and 4 great-grandchildren.   His family also included:  brother, Tim Shaw; sister, Carroll Whitney; cousins Ike, Dane, Dave, John, Kathy, and many others; and several loving nieces and nephews.  Family was everything to Mike - holiday celebrations, family dinners, reunions, vacations – all were a regular part of his life with very special memories made each time.

Mike was always a true leader – from the age of 5 years onward. Being a father figure even as a child, planning family and friend events, teaching others to dance, cook, drive, ride horses, hunt, establishing and leading numerous community activities, building a career focused on leading and guiding others, and it all came natural to him.  He made friendships far and wide and loved to make others laugh.

Graduating from Point Pleasant High School in 1961, Mike then went to WVU for undergraduate and law school. He received his law degree there in 1968, then returned to Point Pleasant to join the Rardin Law Firm. His career highlights are too numerous to mention all of them, so we will list a few here:  Prosecuting Attorney (1968-72); leadership of Shaw Law practice – from 1973 until semi-retirement in 2018 (Mike never understood why anyone would want to retire completely); WV House of Delegates 1973-74; WV Senate – 1979-83 and 1983-87; Chairman, Workers' Compensation Board of Appeals; Commissioner, WV Board of Realtors; Member, WV Public Service District; President, Mason County Republican Committee (10 years).  The highlight of his career for Mike was sharing the law practice with his son, Michael Shaw, Jr. – who continues to build the legacy and make his dad proud.

Preceding Mike in death, in addition to his parents and first wife, was son, Tres.
