Reta Smith, age 68, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away in the stillness of early morning on June 30, 2025. Born January 19, 1957, her life was marked by a love of family, books, art, and history.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Smith; her parents, John "Mutt" Byus and Freda Mattox Byus; and her siblings Alice Capehart, Sue Roach, Teresa Barnett, Martha Byus, Randy Byus, and Bill Byus.

Reta is survived by her children: Joseph Brent Smith (Jeri), Kelly Hughes (Scott), and Breanna Leslie (John). She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Cody and Chase "Lacey" Smith, Peyton and Kady Hughes, Amelia, Jack, Hayes, and Colter Leslie; and one great-grandchild, Wesley Michael Smith.

Reta's time on this earth held both hardship and beauty, and she met each day with the quiet strength and intelligence of a life fully lived. She is remembered for her patience with her grandchildren, her creative spirit, and her deep love for animals.

A visitation will be held at Crow & Hussell Funeral Home on Thursday, July 3, with family hour from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., with a public visitation to follow from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
