Richard Barry Adkins, age 78, of Point Pleasant, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Holzer Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 28, 1947, in Madison, WV, a son to the late Raymond and Gail (Munday) Adkins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Adkins; and his brother, Don Adkins.

He was a retired coal miner for 28 years, Meigs Mine #31. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and eating with his friends at the diner in Gallipolis Ferry and Golden Corral. He enjoyed mining coal over the phone with his good friends he had worked with at the mines.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nine years, Mary Deweese Adkins; son, Richard "Ritchie" (Rene) Adkins, of South Carolina; daughter, Melissa "Missy" Fields, of Gallipolis Ferry; step-daughter, Shasta (John) Hart, of Leon; step-son, Timothy (Bobbi) Deweese, of Leon; grandchildren, Ricky, Nikki, Ashley, Michael, Kelsie, Kristian, Braxton, Peyton, Mikel, Zoie and Dax; great-grandchildren, Chris, Brayden, and Julie; and many extended family and friends who will miss him.

There will be a memorial service celebrating Richard's life at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm, on Tuesday. You may offer the family condolences via this webpage.
