Obituary

Richard G. "Dick" Thomas, age 85, of Point Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Riverside Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio.

Dick was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion, Mason County Post #23; worked for over 35 years at the Mason County Courthouse and also worked in construction; member of the Teamsters Local #505; member of the Main St. Baptist Church; past Mason County Democratic Committee Chairman; VP and CVPE director of the Mason / Jackson Labor Council; past president of the Point Pleasant Girls Softball League and also assistant Scoutmaster.

Dick was born on January 16, 1932, in Point Pleasant, a son to the late Richard and Josephine (Cheap) Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine "Tommy" Hanes, Era Mae Rollins and Jane Ann Thomas; nephew, Todd Handley; niece, Annette "Pooh" Hanes; and brothers-in-law, Ernest Handley, Bob Rollins and Gene Hanes.

Dick is survived by his wife, Patty (Mayes) Thomas; daughter and son-in-law, Staci and Brent Peters, of Jackson, OH; grandchildren, Ashley, Allison and Brantley Peters; sister, Anna "Sappy" Handley, of Point Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Dick's life will be remembered at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2017, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Pastors Bob Patterson and Carl Swisher officiating. Burial will follow in Suncrest Cemetery, with military honors rendered by the WV Honor Guard and the American Legion, Mason County Post #23. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening, August 31, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Alzheimer Association.

Dick's care and the care of his family have been entrusted to Crow-Hussell Funeral Home. Patty was the love of his life and his grandchildren were his world. And he will be missed by all. You may offer condolences by visiting: www.crowhussellfh.com.
