Obituary for Roger Dale Garrett

Roger Dale Garrett, age 74 of Point Pleasant, WV, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, December 3, 2023, in Columbus, OH at the OSU James Cancer Hospital.

Preceded in death by his parents, Julian Dyke and Ruth Marie (Woody) Garrett, father-in-law, Ralph Edgar Barrell, younger brother, Edward Eugene Garrett, son-in-law, Matthew Whittington, brother-in-law, Red O'Hara.

Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was born in Logan, WV, near Garrett's Fork, in his home, February 15, 1949, to his father and mother, Dyke and Ruth Garrett. He grew up in Evergreen, Gallipolis, OH. He was a 1967 graduate of North Gallia High School. As well, he completed welding courses at Buckeye Hills Career Center, Associate Business Administration at Southern Ohio Business College, Psychiatric Aide course at Gallipolis State Institute, and 26 semester hours at University of Rio Grande, as well as much military education. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1969, in which he was active as a platoon leader in the Vietnam War, with an honorable discharge from active war in 1971, as an E5. He also served in the National Guard until 1995, completing about 25 years service, having obtained Sargent First Class E7 with multiple awards and medals. He worked in civilian life after active duty as a welder for numerous companies and then as a licensed insurance salesman for Western Southern Life, where he retired. Throughout his life he has enjoyed fishing, talking a lot, telling a lot stories, and his family and friends; and most recently a love for bird watching. He attended Kingdom Ministries of Bidwell, OH and was happily received into heaven as he received Jesus as his Lord. He overcame a drinking problem, prostate cancer, and a nicotine addiction. He was a good man. He thought a lot of others. He recently has battled a long ongoing sickness with COPD, Parkinson's Disease, and lastly Multiple Myeloma, of which he was unable to overcome here on earth. However, his faith has made him whole as he rests now with our Lord.

Services for Roger will be Friday, December 8, 2023, at Kingdom Ministries located at 839 Kerr Rd, Bidwell, OH 45614. Visitation will be from 11 am to 1pm with the funeral service at 1pm, Pastor Randy Patterson officiating.
