Obituary

Roy Junior Taylor, a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marines, passed away on July 16, 2023, while at the Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio at the age of 87.

The son of Roy and Louise (McDaniel) Taylor, Roy grew up in Point Pleasant, WV and surrounding areas.  He was born January 20, 1936, and attended the local high school. He attended undergraduate school at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD with a degree in Sociology, and attended University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community, receiving a master's degree (1974-1976).

At the age of 18, Roy enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was first stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC.  While serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he was deployed to Korea.  After serving 6 years, Roy enlisted in the National Guard (1961-1962), after which he was activated to serve in the U.S. Army. During his service with the Army, he served several tours overseas which included Okinawa, the Philippines, Germany and two tours in the Viet Nam.  His specialty was vehicle maintenance.  During his military service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, United States Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, United States Army Good Conduct Medal, four Overseas Service Bars, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm 2nd Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

He retired from the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, GA as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 on October 31, 1974, after serving 20 years with the armed forces.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (John) Woleslagle of Hubert, NC; son, Roy Junior Taylor II of Columbus, OH; son, Raymond Anthony Taylor of Ireland; daughter, Brenda Kay Redeagle of Gallipolis, OH; sister, Carol Jean (Jim) Holley and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Roy and Louise (McDaniel) Taylor; an infant daughter, Tina Louise Taylor; a sister, Geraldine Roush; a brother, Lewis Thomas Taylor; and an infant brother, Robert Wayne Taylor.

A grave side memorial service will be held at the Taylor family plot at the Lone Oak Cemetery on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 12:00.  Military honors will be conducted.
