Steven Eugene Newsome, 59, of Leon, passed away, due to natural causes, on Saturday morning, January 21, 2012, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. As a young man, Steve was involved in scouting, being a member of Troop #257, where he achieved the honor of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1971. He worked for AEP River Division for 31 years, before retiring. He was an officer in his local Steelworkers Union. Steve had a love for music from the time he was young and continued to compose and play music throughout his adult life. Steve was very active in his community, the regatta, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the West Virginia Wildlife Association.

Steve was born on June 7, 1952, in Morehead, KY, a son to the late Harlin and Evelyn (Johnson) Newsome. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Stevie Marie Newsome.

Steve is survived by his wife, Brenda (Pierson) Newsome; his sons, Cory Eugene Newsome and Levi Steven Newsome; his brother, Paul David Newsome; and his sister, Peggy (Newsome) Johnson, and one grandson, Wyatt Eugene Newsome.

In keeping with Steve's wishes, services will be private for the family.
