Obituary

Rev. Verlin R. "Sampy" Hart, 81, of Leon, passed into the presence of his Savior on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at his home. He was retired from the Labor Union, Local #543, in Huntington. He was the pastor of the Harvey Chapel Church, in Leon, for 41 years. He was born September 8, 1943, in Leon, a son to the late Doris Crump. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Lorain "Chick" Crump, and siblings, Jeff Crump, Lorain Crump, Jr., and Shirley Woodall.

Sampy is survived by his loving wife, Dottie (DeVault) Hart; daughter and son-in-law, Darlene (Lee) Roach, of West Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith (Stephanie) Hart, of West Columbia, James (Kathleen) Hart and John (Shasta) Hart, all of Leon; grandchildren, Tabitha Chapman, Adam Hart, Ashley Cline, Leah Roach, Noah Hart, Sherman Hart, Devyn Rice, and Cheyenna Hoffmann; great-grandchildren, Jason, Emily, Kierstan, Kameron, Hudson, Parker, Berkley, and Nichole; sisters, Cindy Dunfee and Tammy Fillinger, both of Point Pleasant; and special brother, Allen Hart, of Leon.

There will be a funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, with Revs. Jimmy Jordan and Randy Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Roseberry Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral Home, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. You may offer condolences to the family via this webpage.
