William G. "Billy" Stetler, of Marshallville, died February 7, 2010, at Pleasant Valley Hospital, in Pt. Pleasant, WV, after a long illness. He was born October 14, 1937 in Willshire, OH, a son of the late William Hay and Elizabeth Goff Stetler. Billy lived a fulfilling life and will be missed greatly by his family and all who knew him. He loved the Lord, his family and his country.
Billy enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1956 right after graduation from Smithville High School. He served ten years in the Marines. Later, he joined the U.S. Air Force, served a total of 14 years including a year and a half in Desert Shield/Storm as a communication and navigation systems technician. Billy received many service medals with devices. He retired Tgst, serving a total of 24 years in the service for our country. He saw two wars, seven conflicts and was a very proud veteran and a graduate of Akron University.
Billy was retired from the Dept. of Defense as a logistic coordinator contractor of which he traveled to many different states: Iowa, Mississippi, Illinois and Florida, where he and his family made their home for 20 years while he was with the NASA Space Shuttle program and other contractors.
Billy has also received three separate letters from three separate former presidents of congratulations and thank you for a job well done. These letters are from former presidents George Bush, George W. Bush, Jr. and Bill and Hillary Clinton.
Billy spent this past year in Sandyville, WV as he was raised in West Virginia by his late grandparents A.J. and Lena Garlow. This is where he wanted to recuperate from an unfortunate farm accident that left him partially disabled. While in Sandyville, Billy became a trustee at the VFW Post #5501, in Ripley, WV. He also enjoyed fishing, bluegrass and country music, played the washboard with the band and was learning to play the banjo and could sing a little too.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 plus years, Reva L. (Boley) Stetler and daughters and sons-in-law, M. Renee and Carry Ehrmantrout, of Marshallville and Kristie and Patrick Frost, of Woodbine, GA; grandsons, Brian Ehrmantrout and Tyi Frost; great-grandson, Brayden Ehrmantrout; and many nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws and cousins.
Burial will be at sea per William's request. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Doylestown American Legion and/or the VFW Post 5501 in Ripley, WV. Billy was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars and also a member of the Doylestown American Legion and Sergeants Association U.S.A.F.
